Charleston, SC remains a popular tourist destination among most states in the U.S., studies show, but one particular region that appears to be paying more attention to our city is New England. Palmetto Carriage Works recently hosted members of the WCVB5 news team hailing from the Boston region as they uncovered the many reasons why people are so drawn to the Holy City. The consensus? Not only is Charleston rich in history, it also has beautiful sites to see around every corner. From the architecture to the unobstructed water and marsh views and meticulously maintained secret gardens, there is always something new to discover in Charleston.
The news team came along with us on a horse and carriage ride around the streets of Charleston, where they got to see for themselves why tourists are so fond of visiting. Palmetto’s General Manager, Tommy Doyle, describes Charleston as being perfectly laid out for horse and carriage tours; better than any other city in the nation. He mentions that, “Horses and carriages have always had a place in our city right up until today.” The old world charm that Charleston maintains is undoubtedly why it is such a popular spot for fellow travelers and history buffs. And horse and carriage rides are such a tried and true staple in this town, it’s hard to come here and not be persuaded to jump on board.

Another way that visitors enjoy seeing our city is by water. The news team explores Charleston Harbor by way of Charleston Yacht Tours, where they quickly realize why Charleston has been named the “Holy City.” The handfuls of church steeples that dot the skyline can be seen better from the harbor than from anywhere else in town. And the cool breeze can be a welcome companion during the warmer months of the year.
Exploring Charleston can be a tiring task and at the end of the day, finding the right place to rest is almost as important as the day’s adventures were. The WCVB5 news team features the apartments at the Restoration Hotel. This spot offers a great location, being just off of vibrant King Street, and is known for its historic architecture, shopping and restaurants. The apartment style accommodations that the Restoration offers include living areas, kitchens and separate bedrooms and bathrooms. For families who prefer to spread out on their vacations, this is the perfect option. The hotel also offers traditional hotel rooms, has a rooftop bar and restaurant, and a social hour where guests are encouraged to mingle.
